I love making decorative pie tops out of dough, but stencils are another fun way to turn your pie into a work of art. Make your pie and while it’s cooling pull out an x-acto knife and some stiff paper, like a file folder or card stock. Go to town! Cut away as you like.
It can be helpful to trace a pie tin lightly on the paper if you want the design to stay on top, or, like in the pictures above, make the stencil as large as you want and let it spill over the edges. You’ll need powdered sugar and a sifter on hand. When you’re ready place the stencil over the fully cooled pie and lightly dust it with the powdered sugar. Keep a steady hand and pull away the stencil: wooola!
